Why is it so important for users to find my website via search engines? Can't someone just type the name of my website into the browser?
They can if the user knows the URL or has even heard of your business to search for it. When someone is searching for information or a resource on the Web, they will use a search engine like Google or Yahoo or MSN to find what is needed. They'll trust the results returned from those sites for the term (or "keyphrase") entered must be quality vendors, coming from such big companies. The reality is that the search engines can only decide which websites are the most important based on data - primarily the content on the website, and links from other websites to yours.

Why do I need content on my website?
To put it simply, so that users (and also the engines) will know what your site is about. Sites without any search targeted content may not be receiving the best visibility in the search engines. By adding quality content, you directly educate the users on the keyphrases of most importance to you so they can better find you in the search engines which should generate more traffic to your site.

How many pages of content does my site need?
Generally - the more the merrier, but it depends on the of related keyphrases. It is certainly possible that a client will need to target only 20 keyphrases - but that doesn't mean that 60 pages of content wouldn't help the site rank more completely.

What are "black hat" methods vs. "white hat" methods?
Black hat methods are simply those that are frowned upon by the search engines - techniques that are clearly an attempt to "trick" the engines into ranking a site higher. Link farming, cloaking, doorway pages - these are all techniques that are used to trick the engines. If you were to use these techniques and your site was to get caught, you could be banned from the search results for a long time.
White hat methods are those practices that are accepted industry wide. At InfoSearch Media, we adhere to SEO best practices and abide by a corporate code of ethics when creating quality search-targeted content for your site.

What do the keyphrase analysts do?
Keyphrase analysts perform a crucial job. Once you become a client, you may have a list of keyphrases you feel confident would benefit the content generation efforts that should be included in the final list of keyphrases. Your input is very important to us during this discovery process and we welcome your suggestions and will analyze them along with many other keyphrases to determine which ones will perform best. You might be surprised to learn that the keyphrases you think will be the likely choices actually could impede your rise in the rankings, or may not bring you qualified traffic.
Keyphrase analysts look at queries across the entire area of interest, and suggest those that a) are more easily ranked; and b) are most closely matched to the client's products and services.

What is Google PageRank? How is it calculated?
PageRank (or "PR") is a way to measure the "value" of a page per criteria set out by Google. There are maybe a hundred variables that go into determining a site's PR, but the two primary factors that can be controlled are content and in-bound links. Content tells users (and the engines) what your site is about, and inbound links to your site are counted as "votes" or "referrals" by others. Other factors include the age of a site, what type of domain it is, such as a dot.edu, dot.gov, dot.org, or dot.mil, and whether or not the site is optimized. PR is used in general to determine where a site ranks for certain phrases - utilizing content and page titles to determine which keyphrases. If a PR 7 site and a PR 5 site both have good, quality content around the same keyphrase, chances are that the PR 7 site will rank higher.

Links are very important. The engines consider links to your site, also called backlinks or inbound links, to be "votes" or "referrals". Just as crucial as the of links to your site is who is voting for your site. Unlike voting for President of the US - where every vote counts exactly the same - search engines weight votes from more "powerful" sites (in Google's case, those with a higher PR) higher. So using quality inbound links can be a critical part of the ranking and traffic equation.
